Lowther Hall is divided into three areas - Blinkbonnie House (Kindergarten to Year 1), Raymond House (Years 2 - 6) and Senior School (Years 7 to 12) - enabling all students to identify with their own peer group, whilst also remaining an integral part of the wider school community.
Classroom spaces provide areas for girls to construct and create and art areas are incorporated into the classrooms so that concepts investigated in science or history can be explored through visual media. Mezzanine platforms provide areas for groups of students to read, converse or consult with staff without the confines of tables and chairs.
Blinkbonnie House is designed to inspire curiosity and exploration of the natural world, with themed levels representing the sky, land, and burrow, reflected in décor and a central mural of Australian flora and fauna. At its heart, the Tawny Frogmouth Reading Nook fosters a love of literacy, supported by Year 8 ‘reading friends', whilst the basement multipurpose space (Echidna Room) hosts physical education, digital and design technology lessons, Chapel, and Out of School Hours Care. A dedicated music room supports young musicians, and thoughtfully designed outdoor play areas encourage scientific discovery, creativity, and physical development.
The outdoor play spaces in Blinkbonnie House are thoughtfully designed to support the developmental needs of our youngest learners. These inviting environments encourage curiosity, creativity, and active exploration, with natural materials, open-ended equipment, and areas for imaginative play such as the boat "Winstow" and sandpit! Whether climbing, building or digging, children are supported to develop physical confidence, social skills, and a love of the outdoors. The spaces reflect the Reggio Emilia approach, nurturing a sense of wonder and connection to the world around them.
The classroom spaces in Raymond House are designed to be both independent and adaptable, supporting a variety of learning styles and activities. Each class group has its own dedicated classroom, providing a focused and secure environment for daily learning. Large walls of windows allow natural light to fill the rooms, creating a bright and welcoming atmosphere. For greater flexibility, retractable doors between classrooms enable whole year levels to come together in a shared space, fostering collaboration and a sense of community. This innovative design allows for seamless transitions between independent study and group learning, ensuring students benefit from both structured instruction and interactive, team-based experiences.
Raymond House is designed to support curiosity, collaboration, and a love of learning through purpose-built spaces tailored to students in Years 2–6. A dedicated music room provides a space for budding musicians to develop their talents, while specialist areas for art and digital technologies encourage hands-on, innovative thinking. Small group learning spaces support personalised learning and enrichment programs, ensuring every student receives the guidance they need to thrive. Students in Years 2-6 use specialist STEM facilities in the Noelene Horton Centre for the Science and Technology lessons.
Outdoor play areas promote physical development and social interaction, creating a well-rounded environment where students can grow academically, socially, and emotionally. Designed to foster creativity, promote physical activity, and encourage social interaction in a welcoming environment and our students get to explore the multiple play spaces inspired by the Maribyrnong River and surrounds including a STEM engineering wall and Ninja Warrior course.
Sampford House is light, airy and welcoming. It features spacious classrooms as well as collaborative learning spaces, specialist learning areas and a purpose-built learning resource centre.
The Grant House learning environment features state-of-the-art facilities including Science laboratories, a Learning Resource Centre, a commercial standard Food and Technology facility, as well as a dedicated VCE student common room.
Our range of specialist facilities helps us to give every girl every opportunity. As students move through the Senior School their learning is supported by a range of purpose-built spaces such as the commercial kitchen, dance studio, Mary Thurman Recital Space, Science labs in the Noelene Horton Centre and the Learning Resource Centre.
Science Centre
The Noelene Horton Centre contains five science laboratories for the study of biology, chemistry, physics and environmental studies. Living earth walls on both the ground and first floors enable girls to study a range of scientific processes, and a roof top garden provides a number of teaching opportunities due to its location for the building’s intentionally visible engineering systems. This building is named after our former Principal from 1988 to 2005 Noelene Horton AM.
Auditorium
The Joan M Garde Cultural Centre (also known as the Garde Centre) is a dynamic hub for performance and learning. Its ground-level auditorium and stage serve as a venue for student assemblies, intimate musical performances, dance concerts, and the Raymond House Production. Above, the first floor features contemporary learning spaces designed to enhance the educational experience for Senior School students.
Competition sport and training
Our students participate in a wide range of sports. Girls use onsite locations such as the Mansion Front Lawn, Raymond House Greenspace and Multi-purpose court for classes and training onsite.
Music and Movement
Students explore a variety of dance styles while benefiting from the advanced facilities in our state-of-the-art dance studio.
Culinary Arts
A fully equipped commercial grade kitchen enables our students in Senior School to engage in food and hospitality studies.
