As part of this partnership, our Year 7 students have been taking part in an ongoing trial of an AI platform devised by university researchers. The platform uses video software to assess fundamental motor skills such as running, jumping, catching, throwing and kicking, and provides instant feedback to both students and their PE teachers.

This feedback not only helps students identify ways to improve their movement quality, but also supports teachers by reducing the time needed for manual assessment. As a result, teachers can spend more time delivering targeted instruction and personalised coaching, ensuring each student develops greater skill, confidence and enjoyment in sport.

Our Director of Sport, Vicki Hoban, featured in the Channel 9 News story alongside Associate Professor Natalie Lander from Deakin University, highlighting the benefits this research holds for schools across the country.

Having been recently published in Research Australia’s ‘Inspire’ Journal which showcases innovations health and medical research, the program is already garnering interest worldwide.

The project is part of a wider commitment at Lowther Hall to ensuring our Sports Curriculum is not only comprehensive and diverse, but also at the forefront of innovation. From traditional team sports through to research partnerships, our aim is to empower every student to discover her strengths, build her skills, and enjoy the lifelong benefits of physical activity.

Lowther Hall is proud to be recognised as a leader in this field and excited to see how this partnership with Deakin University will continue to shape the future of sport and movement education.
