Offical Opening of the Raymond House Playground

The excitement has echoed all around the School this week, with our girls getting to explore the multiple play spaces inspired by the Maribyrnong River and surrounds. To commemorate this milestone, we invited the design team from A_Space to our 'Together on Friday' Assembly, where we watched a time-lapse of the construction and had a ceremonial ribbon cutting. Thank you to all of those from our community whose donations contributed to bringing this to life!

The planning of a new playground for girls in Years 2 to 6 grew out of the desire to provide more active and challenging play for the girls.

Knowing that for the next few years, the open grassed play area for these students would be reduced with the installation of temporary modular buildings to facilitate the forthcoming works to update the Senior School Visual Arts area, it was important to maximise the space available for activity at recess and lunch breaks.

The different zones: a ninja course at the rear of the building, the main playground, twirly bars and a nature play area have all proved incredibly popular with the students as they have explored all that the new project has to offer!

The Playground project included a significant consultation process with students. The first step was to ask the girls what they wanted. The Student Council worked together to make recommendations and then sat around the table with the playground company, a_space, to provide feedback on design, colour and function. Most importantly, they wanted extra slides and monkey bars in parallel sets to facilitate races! Term 1 saw the project unfold right before the girls’ eyes and finally it was time for the official opening!

It is incredibly satisfying to see a project through from conception to realisation and that is exactly what we were able to celebrate on Friday 1 March when the new Raymond House Playground was officially opened! For the girls, the playground means new adventures, challenges and a whole lot of fun, but for the adults in the Lowther Hall community, it represents the next step in the School’s Master Plan and an enabler for the stages that will follow.
